Chemist / Aftertreatment Technical Specialist
Combines specialized knowledge of chemistry with engineering principles and practices, to identify and advance solutions for design, manufacturing and quality problems. Works with cross functional teams on projects that require material selection, failure analysis, material characterization, interpretation and writing of specifications, product quality inspections, material process quality audits, material process development, production process validation and material property data. Utilizes specialized chemistry knowledge to initiate evaluation and implementation of beneficial emerging materials and materials processing technology.
Applies technical expertise on complex components or projects and works under minimal supervision. Leads projects of all sizes. Provides technical direction for a project or a project team. Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for project success. Through project work, influences at department, program or business unit management level. Provides input on program-related decisions. Proposes innovative initiatives and projects. Demonstrates depth of knowledge of chemistry and its subdisciplines and leverages that expertise on other projects. Troubleshoots complex problems and recommends appropriate actions. Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced chemists, material engineers and chemical engineers.
Laboratory Test Technology – Chemical - The chemist shall have specialized knowledge and experience with basic and advanced chemical lab test technology, to the extent that they are able to drive innovation and provide technical direction for a project team on the characterization of physical, mechanical and chemical properties.
Failure Analysis - Chemical- The chemist shall have specialized knowledge and experience with failure analysis, to the extent that they are able to drive innovation and provide technical direction for a project team to collect the forensic, manufacturing, and service data needed to determine root cause and deliver short / long term counter measures.
Material Characterization Techniques-Chemical - The chemist shall have diversified knowledge and experience in characterizing materials/substances based upon of analysis techniques such as spectroscopy and chromatography, elemental analyses and classic wet-bench techniques that are relevant across various sub-disciplines of chemistry.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
PhD, Masters of Science, Bachelor of Science, or equivalent degree in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering required.
5 years of relevant work experience required.
Experience – 3-5 years in Exhaust Catalyst Technology, Exhaust Aftertreatment Technology, Catalyst Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Chemistry.
Education – Masters in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or field related to Catalyst Technology. PhD 1-3 years industrial experience also valued.
Lead or support projects that deliver measurable financial and technical benefits for the business
Apply expertise in catalysts and exhaust aftertreatment systems to projects in the Aftertreatment Lab
Develop means to clean, inspect, reactivate, refurbish exhaust system catalysts, particulate filters and exhaust fluid injection systems
Develop the capabilities of these and similar technologies to do more
Lead development of project & technology development plans in this área
Be the resident lab Chemist and supply general chemistry support to other projects in the lab
Communicate and document work to global team in standards, technical reports, presentation
